Report your council’s Haiti disaster relief efforts

As you know, on Jan. 12 a devastating magnitude-7 earthquake struck Haiti, resulting in tragic and widespread death and destruction. An estimated 200,000 people are dead, 250,000 injured and 1.5 million homeless due to the quake, according to the European Union Commission. On Jan. 20 a magnitude-6.1 aftershock struck Haiti, leaving in its wake additional damage and injuries.

In times of disaster, UCT councils have traditionally made every effort to provide relief to the victims of global disaster. Many UCT councils have already responded to the situation in Haiti and have contributed nearly $5,000 to this most altruistic and fraternal of causes. We thank you and remind everyone that any effort, no matter the size, is important.

The National Fraternal Congress of America (NFCA) is committed to steering timely assistance to those most in need and wants to keep the general public informed about what the fraternal benefit system is doing to contribute to the relief and reconstruction efforts in Haiti.

If your local council has contributed to Haiti disaster relief efforts through donations or volunteering - or both - please take a moment to let us know by contacting the Fraternal Department at (800) 848-0123, ext. 126, or at amarshall@uct.org. All information will be forwarded to the NFCA to help with its reporting and promotional efforts.
