FAQs
What is a fraternal benefit society?
Fraternal benefit societies serve a dual purpose. We offer our members a unique chance to unite with others who want to get involved and impact their communities. At the same time we offer members affordable insurance and support and savings through member benefit programs. Fraternal benefit societies operate through councils, chapters or lodges. We exist for the good of our local communities and the benefit of our members.
Does UCT have a religious affiliation?
We have no religious or political affiliations. We offer community service opportunities, member benefits and insurance options to all people over the age of 18.
How do I get involved?
You can get involved by volunteering! Contact our Member Services Department and we'll connect you with your nearest local council to learn about upcoming meetings and special events.
How much time do I have to give?
You decide how much time you want to give - there are no minimum time requirements. Whether you give a few hours or lead a major event, the level of commitment is up to you. Any time you give can make a difference.
Where will I fit into UCT?
As a member you'll belong to one of our local councils. Most members meet regularly to plan community service projects, conduct business and enjoy networking and social opportunities. You'll connect with people like you who are serving their communities by helping others. It's a great way to make a difference - and make new friends.
What causes and organizations does UCT support?
We've been committed to helping people with intellectual disabilities, our number one community service project, for 50 years. We do this through support of Special Olympics and other vital programs. We also support cancer research and youth programs, help the homeless and hungry, initiate recycling and community clean-up projects, and assist veterans. We spend hundreds of thousands of hours and dollars each year focusing on causes that matter to our communities.
Some organizations we volunteer and raise funds for that you might recognize include Special Olympics North America, the ARC, the American and Canadian Cancer Societies, the Susan B. Komen Race for the Cure, the Terry Fox Run for Cancer, Big Brothers-Big Sisters and the Boys and Girls Clubs of America and Canada.
