Tom Walker honored as UCT's 2011 Fraternalist of the Year
JACKSONVILLE, Florida, July 2011 - Thomas (Tom) Walker of Jacksonville, Illinois Council 182 was named UCT's 2011 Fraternalist of the Year at our annual convention in Jacksonville. The award is UCT's highest honor given to a member who has demonstrated outstanding service to our organization and the local community.
As a community leader Walker devotes more than 1,500 hours a year to making a difference in the lives of others. Helping individuals with intellectual disabilities is more than just UCT's number one service project for him - it's a way of life. Some of his volunteer activities in this area include volunteering at a local camp for children with special needs, providing transportation for individuals with intellectual disabilities, serving as a volunteer substitute teacher at a local school for special needs children and coordinating special events for children with intellectual disabilities.
And that's just the beginning. Walker has also designed and built a local playground, has helped build homes for underprivileged families and has volunteered with a local scout troop.
Our congratulations to Tom Walker on this well-deserved recognition.
