Members take steps to support the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
COLUMBUS, Ohio, October 2011 - Nineteen members of Columbus' M.J. Terapak Council 144 recently took steps to support the Central Ohio Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's battle against blood cancers by participating in the society's annual Light the Night Walk.
The evening walk funds lifesaving research, education and support through team fundraising efforts. According to UCT team captain Nicole Watson, Light the Night is an ideal fundraising walk for most people because it's short and casual with no fitness requirements.
"Just about anyone can take part in Light the Night," she explained. "It's a fund atmosphere, and it's a good feeling for participants to know they're helping support the work of hundreds of the world's best researchers looking for better therapies and cures for leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma."
Light the Night walks take place in over 200 communities each fall across North America. The Central Ohio event raised around $616,000. UCT's team, participating for its ninth consecutive year, raised nearly $2,000.
