New Hampshire members take the plunge for Special Olympics

HAMPTON BEACH, New Hampshire, March 2011 - Manchester, N.H. Council 195 members David Rouleau and Jeff Masse recently took "the plunge" into the frigid Atlantic Ocean to raise money for Special Olympics New Hampshire (SONH).

The pair, along with 715 other plunging pirates - this year's event theme - dove into the bracing 35 degree water as part of the 2011 Penquin Plunge at Hampton Beach. Less daring fellow members, also known as "chickens," supported them and other plungers from the shore.

Council 195 was an event sponsor, donating more than $3,200 in cash and pledges to the 12th annual event. A total of $530,000 was raised for the state's Special Olympians. Special Olympics New Hampshire is a non-profit organization providing sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Currently 3,500 participants and thousands of volunteers, friends and family members take part in SONH activities.

Helping individuals with intellectual disabilities is UCT's top service project and has been for more than 50 years.
