New Hampshire members turn out to support the Special Hockey International Tournament

MARLBORO, Massachusetts, May 2011 - Members of the New England Grand Council and UCT staff turned out to support the annual Special Hockey International (SHI) Tournament, which took place recently in Marlboro, Mass. This year's tournament was hosted by Massachusetts Special Hockey and the Boston Bear Cubs special hockey program.

The tournament brought together some 68 teams totaling thousands of special needs players from the U.S., Canada and England. Uniquely, the SHI tournament isn't a traditional one. There are no elimination rounds and no one team is crowned champion. Every team played four games and every player on every team played equally in the spirit of participation and fair play.

In addition to the games, the tournament featured an opening ceremony, an opening meet-and-greet and a closing banquet. Council 195 members put in around 100 volunteer hours during the three-day gathering, and CEO Joe Hoffman spoke about UCT at the opening ceremonies.
