UCT members answer the call to help Florida's homeless

JACKSONVILLE, Florida, July 2011 - UCT members answered the call to help Florida's homeless by donating a record number of toiletries for the Sulzbacher Center in Jacksonville. The center is Northeast Florida's only provider of comprehensive services for homeless men, women and children.

The toiletry drive was UCT's annual convention community service project - and it was an overwhelming success. Our goal was to collect 10,000 items including soap, lotion, deodorant, toothpaste and toothbrushes, disposable razors, shampoo and conditioner, lip balm, bug spray, sunscreen and flip flops. Nearly 25,000 items - and more than $1,300 - were collected, proving once again UCT's commitment to community and compassion.

The items were presented to Sara Dougherty, development director of the Sulzbacher Center, and Justin Spiller, vice-president of the center's board of directors, during the convention.

"This is the largest donation of toiletry items by a single organization the Sulzbacher Center has ever received," Dougherty said. "The center distributes hundreds of toiletry kits to shelter residents and people living on the streets each day. We also provide move-out kits to those leaving our shelter. The efforts of UCT members throughout North America will have an enormous impact in helping us provide basic necessities to people who need them the most. We are thankful to UCT members for caring so much about our community."
