Cancer Education and Prevention
Councils and UCT members conduct educational meetings for members and the public and actively support both the American and Canadian Cancer Societies. Council members support a number of cancer programs in their local communities. Many UCT members participate in the American Cancer Society’s national signature event Relay for Life, a unique fund-raising event that enables participants from all walks of life to join together in the fight against cancer. Through members' efforts, hospice care facilities are equipped, dressings are prepared and needed equipment is donated. And, members spend hundreds of hours supporting cancer patients and their families. In 2008, 1,252 UCT members volunteered 11,475 hours and spent $92,783 supporting local cancer programs and patients.
