Life Line Screening…
a UCT benefit protecting health and lives

Stroke and cardiovascular disease are the No. 1 killers of men and women in America; the leading cause of permanent disability; and the No. 1 reason for nursing home admissions. But the good news is that many times these conditions can be prevented, providing they're identified and treated by your doctor.

Through UCT's Life Line Screening benefit, U.S. members have the opportunity to screen for potential strokes, aneurysms and other vascular diseases before they become life-threatening. Life Line screenings are painless, non-invasive, and take less than 10 minutes each. You don't even have to remove your clothing.

Through our partnership with Life Line Screening, UCT members have the opportunity to receive these painless, non-invasive and easy-to-obtain health screenings at a discounted rate. The Stroke, Vascular Disease & Heart Rhythm package is available to U.S. members for only $135. The package includes stroke/carotid artery screening, atrial fibrillation screening (abnormal heart rhythm), peripheral arterial disease (PAD) screening, and abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) screening. An osteoporosis screening can be added for just $10.

If a condition is found that is life-threatening, you will be notified on the day of the screening so that you can consult your physician immediately. Otherwise, your screening will be read by a board-certified physician and your results will be mailed within three weeks.

Life Line Screening has already screened more than 6 million Americans and saved thousands of lives. For more information about this valuable benefit, contact Life Line Screening at (800) 772-8319. Make sure to mention code BDHW-056 when you call. Information may also be obtained by visiting www.LifeLineScreening.com/uct.

Member Fred Kribs of Conway, Ark. Council 864 and his wife took advantage of the Life Line Screening benefit and he's grateful that they did.

"We had our screenings in Texarkana, Texas," Kribs said. "My wife's screenings came out fine, but mine showed a serious blockage in my right carotid artery, something I was totally unaware of. I took the report to my primary care doctor, and then to a vascular surgeon in Texarkana. They confirmed I had over 90 percent blockage, and a week later I had surgery to clean it out.

I just want people to know how valuable the Life Line screenings are."
