Public Safety Education
UCT members make a difference in their communities, touching lives through their involvement in a variety of activities that benefit others. One of these programs deals with the importance of effective safety measures. Public safety education provided on the local council level in the United States and Canada focusing on such safety topics as driving, home, firearms, recreation and emergency care have been cited for their success. Each year, local councils conduct meetings for members and the public, sponsoring speakers to address safety issues pertinent to their communities. In addition, local and Grand councils sponsor annual safety poster contests for both public and parochial school students and for students with intellectual disabilities. The winners of these contests then go on to compete in the annual UCT International Safety Poster Contest. In 2008, 781 UCT members spent 1,819 hours and $17,333 supporting community safety programs. For more information about how your council can get started with a safety program or for information about UCT's safety poster contest, please contact the Public Relations Department at lfisher@uct.org or at (800) 848-0123, ext. 130. | ||||
