UCT’s International Safety Poster Contest As part of UCT's ongoing effort to promote safety education, the organization sponsors an international safety poster contest for students in public and parochial schools and for students with intellectual disabilities each year. Posters promoting any type of safety (i.e. drug, alcohol, firearms, fire safety, etc.) that have won UCT's safety poster competitions on the local and regional levels are eligible and judging is conducted in three levels for each division. In the public and parochial school division, the levels are: the lower level, for students in the 3rd, 4th and 5th grades; the middle level, for students in the 6th, 7th and 8th grades; and the upper level, for students in the 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grades. In the division for people with intellectual disabilities, the levels are: the lower level, for students comparable to the 3rd, 4th and 5th grades; the middle level, for students comparable to the 6th, 7th and 8th grades; and the upper level, for students comparable to the 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grades. One first prize, two second prize and three third prize posters are selected as winners in each level of each division. The safety posters are judged according to the originality of idea, the artistic ability displayed and the neatness of the content. The international safety poster judging is conducted at UCT's Home Office by professional judges working in the art and safety fields and the winning posters are displayed at the organization’s annual convention in July. Winners are awarded cash prizes. 2008 International Safety Poster Contest Winners Click on a name to see the winner’s poster Public/Parochial School Division Upper Level First Place - Emily Eisenmann, Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin Council 335 Second Place - Kathleen Mowat, Neepawa, Manitoba Council 924 Second Place - Chelsey Brown, Jack Kidd Council 755, Saint John, New Brunswick Third Place - Johnathon Jones, Jacksonville, Illinois Council 182 Middle Level First Place - Jang Woo Lee, Jack Kidd Council 755, Saint John, New Brunswick Second Place - Lindsay Banner, Cincinnati, Ohio Council 2 Second Place - Lacey Leforte, Boissevain, Manitoba Council 940 Third Place - Aspen Bechen, Fenimore Council 249, Mitchell, South Dakota Third Place - Cassandra Etheer, Ottawa, Ontario Council 1046 Third Place - Kaitlyn Grothen, Hastings, Nebraska Council 109 Lower Level First Place - Tanner Austin, Logansport, Indiana Council 354 Second Place - Kollin Fitzke, Hastings, Nebraska Council 109 Second Place - Arlyn Boyd, Boissevain, Manitoba Council 940 Third Place - Luke Knouk, Pictonian Council 879, New Glasgow, Nova Scotia Third Place - Tyler Couture, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan Council 1031 Third Place - Ben Burke, Cincinnati, Ohio Council 2 Intellectual Disabilities Division Upper Level First Place - Clinton DeMilt, Salt Lake Council 81, Salt Lake City, Utah Second Place - Virginia Shu, Vancouver, British Columbia Council 284 Second Place - Candice Wright, Minnedosa, Manitoba Council 926 Third Place - Adam Henderson, Kingsport, Tennessee Council 749 Third Place - Beth Moix, Hot Springs, Arkansas Council 493 Third Place - David Milliken, Salem, Ohio Council 590 Middle Level First Place - Josiah Stephens, Vancouver, British Columbia Council 284 Second Place - Bibiana Garcia-Vicente, Roanoke, Virginia Council 174 Second Place - Denis Bellefleur, Grand Falls, New Brunswick Council 854 Third Place - Tylor Douglas, Fort Wayne, Indiana Council 212 Third Place - Alexander Foster, Fort Smith, Arkansas 86 Third Place - Tony Ferns, Salem, Ohio Council 590 Lower Level First Place - Sabrina Moore, Quincy, Illinois Council 93 Second Place - Mike White, Columbus, Ohio Council 1 Second Place - Nathan Smith, Salt Lake Council 81, Salt Lake City, Utah Third Place - Jessica Van Emon, Battlecreek, Michigan Council 253 Third Place - Rachel Ediges, Frontier Council 727, Cheyenne, Wyoming Third Place - Lily Hu, Vancouver, British Columbia Council 284 |
