Retarded Citizens Teachers Scholarships
UCT has been dedicated to helping people with mental retardation for
more than 40 years. One of the ways that the organization does this is
to provide scholarships to individuals who are pursuing college degrees
or certification to teach persons with mental retardation. The following
are the qualifications for individuals who wish to apply for a UCT scholarship:
A recipient of financial assistance from the UCT Scholarship Fund should
meet one or more of the following:
- Be a teacher of people with mental retardation who needs additional course
work to be certified or to retain certification.
- Be an experienced teacher who wishes to become certified to teach people
with mental retardation.
- Have a bachelor’s or master’ degree and wish to pursue graduate work in the
field of special education.
- Be a college junior or senior (undergraduate) whose course of study is
mental retardation and who is planning to teach people with mental retardation.
- Be enrolled in courses to become a certified instructor under a structured
trade, vocational or recreational program at a facility for people with mental
retardation.
Applicants teaching in areas of special education other than mental retardation
are not eligible. Applicants must plan to be of service to people with mental
retardation in the United States or Canada. Prime consideration will be given
to UCT members.
