Recognizing members for giving back!

Every year in July, UCT members from across North America gather for our annual UCT Convention. The convention is a perfect mix of socializing, networking, taking care of business, and recognizing the accomplishments of members helping their communities. This year’s convention takes place in UCT’s “home town” of Columbus, Ohio, and here to talk a little bit about it is Fraternal Director Sandy Shafer.

During my first cup of coffee this morning I was thinking about the upcoming UCT Convention on July 6-9, which will be held right here in Columbus where UCT was formed 127 years ago. I wonder if the organization’s founding fathers would be pleased with the legacy they left knowing that UCT members have given so much to their local communities to help those in need.

As I read through the local councils’ community service reports, I see causes like the American and Canadian Cancer Societies, Emergency Services, Relay for Life, Make a Wish Foundation, Royal Canadian Legion, Big Brothers-Big Sisters, ASHA, Special Olympics, Meals on Wheels, The Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity, Ronald McDonald House, and many others that our members have supported through volunteering, fundraising, or donating money to help.

To recognize members who have given tirelessly in the name of UCT, during the convention this year, the fraternal team is giving the first annual Lifetime Achievement Award. We will also continue the tradition of presenting the UCT Volunteer of the Year award.

In my estimation, it would be nice to honor every UCT member past and present with an achievement award. Keep up the good work, it doesn’t go unnoticed. Looking forward to seeing you in Columbus in just a couple of weeks.
