SAVANNAH, Georgia, July 2018 – Dave Poets of James B. Chrisp Council 448 in Brandon, Manitoba, was named the recipient of UCT’s Lifetime Achievement Award at the annual convention in Savannah. He was honored for his efforts as a UCT volunteer and staff member.
“I worked for UCT for 15 years and it was probably the best job I ever had,” Dave said. “It’s an honor and a privilege to be part of an organization that gives so much to communities across North America. UCT has been a big part of my life and this award is truly appreciated.”
Through his work with Council 448, Dave has dedicated his time to UCT for more than 40 years. During that time he has given 100 percent to the organization and, through it, to his community by supporting charities like the Canadian Cancer Society, the Multiple Sclerosis Society, Big Brothers-Big Sisters and Meals on Wheels. He has also lent his support to community causes like the local hospice and humane society, youth sports and highway cleanups.
Dave has served through the UCT lines of offices at both the local and regional levels, earning his past president and past regional president honors. He has the distinction of serving on nearly every local and regional UCT committee over the years and has served as a delegate to the organization’s annual convention.
In addition to being a longtime UCT member, Dave spent 15 years as a staff member, serving as the organization’s Fraternal Director for Canada and VP of Canadian Operations. He spent many years traveling Canada – and most particularly the Manitoba-Saskatchewan region – recruiting members and helping to establish local councils.
