Past International President Wes Cosman honored as 2019 UCT Volunteer of the Year

Past International President Wes Cosman is the 2019 UCT Volunteer of the Year.

Past International President J. Wesley (Wes) Cosman of Saint John, New Brunswick, was named the 2019 UCT Volunteer of the Year at our annual convention in New Orleans, Louisiana.

“I’m very humbled and honored to receive this award,” Wes said after being named this year’s Volunteer of the Year award recipient. “It’s certainly not something I ever expected. My council and my community have been so supportive of me, and I’m just glad to be able to give back in some way; to make a difference.”

Wes is a 60-year member of UCT’s Jack Kidd Council 755 in Saint John and is a past president of the council. He is also a past regional president of the Atlantic region and a past international president of the organization, having served six years on its board of governors. According to member Jimmy Doucet, who nominated him for the award, Wes is a cornerstone of the local council who uses it to address needs in the community by encouraging his fellow members to join him in getting involved in projects and events that make a difference for others.

Some of these projects include raising funds for community causes and charities through the council’s TV Bingo, volunteering and participating in the annual Jack Kidd local golf tournament, taking part in Casino Night, coordinating Join Hands Day projects with local youth, and recruiting and mentoring new members.

In addition, Wes provides significant service on his own that includes involvement in fundraising and outreach events for his church, coordinating collection efforts for Christmas Exchange, partnering with local police to support D.A.R.E. programs for at risk youth, and volunteering for St. John Ambulance’s medical first aid projects.
