Making a Difference Together

Our 2015 UCT Convention service project is set to help children with special needs

Posted on Apr 02, 2015 by: David Knapp

This year’s UCT Convention service project will benefit Rainbows United, a Wichita organization dedicated to helping children with special needs, birth through age 21, and their families by bringing together community resources and providing customized services. Founded in 1972, the organization is home grown and nationally recognized. They willingly serve everyone – the family with the ability to pay for services and their neighbors with few options and resources.

According to Rainbows’ Vice President of Marketing Michelle Eastman, the organization is on the leading edge of implementing the most effective therapies for children with special needs by providing home-based, center-based, and community-based service options for young children with special needs. Service components added in the past decade include hearing and vision specialty services, respite care for individuals across the life span, case management services, autism waiver services, supported family living, foster care, outpatient therapies, and therapeutic child care.

Fully 96 percent of Rainbows’ services are provided in family homes or other community settings accommodating family schedules. The organization also runs two local centers, Rainbows’ Kids’ Point and Rainbows’ Kids” Cove, and Camp Woodchuck, a summer recreational and leisure program for children and youth with intellectual and developmental disabilities, kindergarten enrollees through 18 years of age.
