UCT donates more than 25,000 meals to hungry families in Central Ohio

The UCT home office staff rallied once again to show our support for the Mid-Ohio Foodbank and the people who depend on it. UCT’s Special Projects coordinator Jessica Myers along with HR manager Nicole Watson led the charge for this year’s Operation Feed campaign. Straight from Jessica, here’s how this year’s campaign turned out:

“We recently wrapped up another successful UCT Operation Feed campaign and, though this year marks my fourth campaign as coordinator, it NEVER gets boring! And how could it? It’s for such a great cause – helping the hungry! Operation Feed benefits the Mid-Ohio Foodbank, located in Grove City, Ohio, which has been working with local businesses, farmers, and the public since 1980 to collect and distribute food to 650 food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, after-school programs, and senior housing sites across central and eastern Ohio.

During this year’s campaign, we held many tried-and-true events to raise money for the cause, including a kickoff breakfast, a “Hot Diggity Dog Day” luncheon hosted by home office employee Alice Bishop, a “Buy a Pie for the 4th of July” pie fundraiser, multiple raffles, and a Krispy Kreme Donut Day.

Of course, one of our main events was UCT’s 3rd Annual Food Truck Rally. The weather was perfect, the crowd was large, and the food was AMAZING! We had eight local food truck vendors who came out to serve and help us celebrate the campaign. Many were even able to donate a portion of their proceeds back to Operation Feed! The fun didn’t stop there; the next day, UCT hosted a Happy Hour at Smokehouse Brewing Company to celebrate the half-way mark of our campaign. It was a hot day but that didn’t stop many UCT employees, family members, and friends from coming out for the cause! Smokehouse Brewing was even kind enough to donate 10% of their sales from the two-hour happy hour back to Operation Feed.

The following week, we were able to carry out another UCT Operation Feed tradition by hosting a “Bring Your Child to Work Day” event. The children and grandchildren of UCT packed up the canned food items we collected over the course of the campaign and decorated bookmarks for the foodbank’s new library program. In total, UCT was able to collect 312 pounds of food to help our hungry neighbors. INCREDIBLE! This year, we were even able to take the kids on a tour of the foodbank to show them the true impact of hunger in our community. Everyone, including the adults, was floored with how immense the need truly is.

Because of the amazing support of UCT employees, family, friends and our local community, we were able to raise $6,330.64. Because of partnerships with grocers, food companies and others, the Mid-Ohio Foodbank is able to turn $1 into FOUR meals. This means that we were able to provide 25,634 meals to our hungry neighbors.

In just a few short weeks, the foodbank will wrap-up the Operation Feed campaign at the Hofbrauhaus in Columbus where we will find out the total raised from all participating companies. Stay tuned!” – Jessica
