UCT scholarship deadlines coming up fast!

Posted January, 2021 by: David Knapp

College is expensive. That’s why UCT is here to help. If you have a child or grandchild headed off to college soon, a UCT scholarship might be just what they’re looking for to help them cover expenses. Better yet, maybe you know someone who needs financial assistance for college who would also like to be a member of a great organization that… Continue Reading…

You’re most likely aware by now that due to COVID-19 the UCT Board of Governors has decided to cancel the 2021 face-to-face UCT convention in Lexington, Kentucky, in favor of a virtual convention. As always, the Board is focused on putting the safety of UCT members first. You’ll receive more information once plans for the convention have been finalized. Some UCT programs… Continue Reading…

Some reflections on the spirit of giving

Posted December, 2020 by: David Knapp

During this holiday season I wanted to write about the spirit of giving. The true spirit of giving is doing for others with no expectation of gain. It might be a gift you bought, one you made, or the gift of time or volunteering to benefit others. Giving means different things to different people and that’s how it should be. Giving is an emotion, it will increase your… Continue Reading…

Gratitude in the time of COVID

Posted November, 2020 by: David Knapp

“May you live in interesting times.” How often have we heard this adage at different periods in our lives? I don’t know about you, but this past year certainly qualifies as one of the most interesting I’ve lived through – and I grew up in the 60s and 70s. What I’ve recently discovered is that this English expression, which at first glance… Continue Reading…

Halloween, pandemic style

Posted October, 2020 by: David Knapp

Let’s face it, 2020 has been plenty scary, and as we round the corner on arguably the scariest and, for some of us, absolute best holiday of the year, many folks are wondering just what exactly pandemic Halloween will look like. Sadly, many traditional ways of celebrating are now considerably more frightful than usual just because they bring the risk of spreading… Continue Reading…

We’re pleased to announce that the UCT Board of Governors recently approved the creation of a new UCT scholarship program – the Ann Marshall Scholarship Program. This program will, in effect, serve to fill the void left by the suspension of the May E. Tisdale Scholarship Fund by awarding college and/or technical school scholarships to UCT members and the children and grandchildren… Continue Reading…

The Dog Days are here!

Posted August, 2020 by: David Knapp

You’ve probably heard the phrase, “the dog days of summer” or the “the dog days of August” around this time of year. This generally refers to what is often the hottest and most humid time of summer in the Northern Hemisphere when many of us – dogs and humans alike – just want to lie around because of the heat. Certainly we’ve… Continue Reading…

UCT members don’t let COVID-19 get them down

Posted July, 2020 by: David Knapp

The last six months have been surreal in so many ways. Mask wearing. Social distancing. Sheltering in place. Locking down. These are concepts that had no place in most of our worlds before spring 2020. Still, we’ve all taken deep breaths and slowly but surely adjusted to this “new normal” that our lives have become. We’re human, that’s what we do. Our… Continue Reading…
