Making a Difference Together

ASHA Update…

Posted on Jul 18, 2013 by: UCT

UCT is in its third year as the national sponsor of ASHA to help grow special hockey programs for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Our three-year donations total more than $50,000.

UCT members can support ASHA through such volunteer efforts as sponsoring ice time for games and practices, hosting post-practice lunches, helping sponsor tournaments and camps, and holding fundraisers to help teams with travel costs and purchasing necessary equipment.

Because of the flexible requirements, we are seeing more and more teams expressing interest and establishing their own UCT Alternative councils.  As a result of our 3 year partnership with ASHA, UCT is now gaining new, active members within the ASHA communities as parents, coaches and teams merge their efforts in supporting those with intellectual and developmental disabilities together with UCT.  To date, we have established 5 new ASHA alternative councils!  Furthermore, 3 of these new councils have already, or plan to, host a special hockey festival!

In addition, as we move forward, UCT is in the process of presenting an insurance plan to provide coverage to all ASHA athletes!  This is exciting stuff!

With UCT’s three year commitment to ASHA coming to end, what better way to continue this partnership moving forward than having Alternative Councils established within each perspective ASHA team. The response has been very receptive as we move towards our future goals.

This is the trend we see continuing as more ASHA parents, coaches and friends become members of our great organization, which is why this partnership is so important to both UCT and ASHA.
