Making a Difference Together

Making a difference is what we do… and we do it in a BIG way at our annual convention

As our members start gearing up for the annual UCT Convention in Greenville, SC, so do the donations for our annual service project. This year, we will be collecting monetary and tangible donations for Greenville’s Meyer Center for Special Children, whose mission is to help children living with disabilities reach their maximum potential.

Each year UCT members leave their mark in the host city of the UCT Convention by contributing to a local charity in need. And when we say leave our mark, we are talking about thousands of dollars raised and hundreds of items collected! What can we say… we know how to make a difference!

Julie Accetta, Director of Community Relations for Meyer Center for Special Children shared with us exactly how our donations will benefit them.

“The Meyer Center was established by Dr. Leslie Meyer in 1954 to provide quality education and life-changing therapies to pre-school age children with disabilities. Today, approximately 100 students from 6 months to 7 years old benefit from the programs and services provided by the Meyer Center. Each child has an Individualized Education Plan with specific goals to help students reach their maximum potential with certified therapists working in groups and individually to help address speech, occupational and physical challenges. Every child is unique and an interdisciplinary team of teachers, therapists and social workers continually assess a student’s progress and make adjustments to promote growth in all developmental areas. Upon graduation, Meyer Center staff works with Greenville County Schools to determine the least restrictive environment for meeting a student’s developmental needs.

The Meyer Center depends on private insurance and Medicaid reimbursements, United Way funding, individual, corporate and foundation support, and special event revenue to operate. Any in-kind donations of services and supplies help us reduce costs which allows us to designate financial contributions directly to the education and growth of our students. Without the tremendous support of groups like UCT we would not be able to fulfill our mission as efficiently and effectively as possible. On behalf of our staff, board of directors, students and families, thank you for your commitment to enriching the lives of children with disabilities so that they might reach their full potential.”

Your donation, however large or small, will allow the staff of the Meyer Center to continue the day-to-day tasks necessary to help the children they’re dedicated to. Their wish-list includes:

  • Baby wipes
  • Clorox disinfectant wipes
  • Hand soap
  • Plastic forks and spoons
  • First class postage stamps

You can also send your donation to the UCT Home Office in Columbus to transport to the convention for you! Please send them to: UCT, c/o Jessica Myers, 1801 Watermark Drive, Suite 100, Columbus, OH 43215. Be sure we receive them by no later than June 16, 2017. Please make checks payable to the Meyer Center for Special Children.

As always, we thank you for your continued support and sincere generosity!
