UCT and ASHA – a winning team!

If you’ve been reading our blog and Facebook posts for the past few weeks, you know that our UCT Gives Back to Special Hockey video contest to award a total of $15,000 to two deserving special hockey programs is just around the corner. And you know we’re excited about it!

UCT made a commitment in 2010 to become the sponsor of the American Special Hockey Association (ASHA) because it’s a great organization that’s programs help individuals with developmental disabilities learn and grow through playing hockey. UCT has supported programs for people with disabilities for more than 60 years, so partnering with ASHA seemed like a good fit – and it has been.

Through this partnership UCT members have had the chance to experience some pretty wonderful moments watching special hockey players on the ice and interacting with them off the ice. It’s a fabulous feeling to know our support is doing so much good for so many special individuals.

Mike Hickey is the president of ASHA, and we think it’s safe to say he feels as good about this partnership as we do. Here’s what Mike has to say:

“ASHA appreciates and is grateful for the support we receive from UCT. From financial assistance to the annual UCT Winter Hockey Festival to the UCT Kaye Trainer International Capital Campaign to the UCT Gives Back to Special Hockey video contest, we remain very proud of our relationship with UCT. This partnership has made it possible for ASHA to provide more and better services for our players, and that’s what we’re all about.

We’re also proud that our ASHA teams are starting UCT alternative councils where we can use our UCT membership to help give back and improve the lives of others. These councils not only give us a way to show our support for UCT and all they have done for us, but they provide us with a way to raise additional funding for our programs on a local level.

ASHA hopes to continue this valuable partnership for years to come, as the impact from UCT has been life changing to the special needs athletes we serve. We hope in the future to work even more with UCT to enrich and improve the lives of others. Together we proved to be a pretty winning team.”

We couldn’t agree more, Mike. Get more info about this partnership at www.uct.org or at www.specialhockey.org and find out how you might get involved. You’ll be glad you did!
