UCT provides member assistance when it’s needed most

This summer has seen Mother Nature once again flexing her muscle. Some areas of the U.S. and Canada have experienced record-breaking heat, drought and accompanying wildfires while others have been hit with larger than normal rainfall and flooding. All this following spring’s treacherous tornadoes.

UCT can’t control nature, but we can be – and are – here for our members who experience disaster-related emergencies due to floods, fires or tornadoes. Through our disaster relief benefit we provide immediate financial assistance that allows members to purchase needed food, clothing and shelter.

Lori Rutledge, a UCT employee and member of M.J. Terapak Council 144 in Columbus, Ohio, recently experienced a devastating house fire. Through our disaster relief benefit, she and her family received financial assistance to help them through the worst of the aftermath. Here’s what she has to say about UCT’s help:

“I just want to say thank you to Council 144 and UCT. It was so thoughtful of both the council and the home office to think of me and help me out after the house fire my family and I experienced. This has been a difficult and stressful time for me and my family, and the assistance is appreciated. I can’t express how much the disaster relief helped me financially, with all the deposits I had to make.

I volunteer a lot through Council 144 and UCT, because giving back makes me feel good, and I like to think I can make a difference. I never thought, being a member and employee, that I would ever need any assistance. It’s a great feeling to know that my council and my UCT family thought enough of me to help me. It made me cry happy tears to know that I belong to such a great organization.

Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. I truly love working for UCT and being a member of Council 144!”
