Making a Difference Together

UCT scholarships DO make a difference!

UCT is very fortunate that we’re able to provide assistance to people in the form of scholarships. We are also fortunate that the recipients of our UCT Scholarship Program are willing to keep us up to date on the steps they’re taking to work with and help people with intellectual disabilities. One such recipient is Eric Moore. In a recent email from Eric thanking UCT for our ongoing support, he informed me that he has been accepted into the University of Tennessee, Knoxville’s Ph.D. program in special education – and he’s teaching students with intellectual disabilities at the college level in UTK’s Future program.

The FUTURE program provides young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities with tools to make a successful transition from high school to adult life by providing them with career counseling and developing their academic, vocational, and decision making skills.

According to Eric, “…in regard to the FUTURE program, I am hoping to help spread the word, and perhaps UCT is a great ally in this mission! There are a booming number of programs like FUTURE springing up around the country for people with ID who would like to go to college. The largest database (complete with student-centric searching) can be found at Think College.”

After checking out Think College’s website I found that it is truly an impressive program, and I encourage everyone to go to the website and see what it has to offer.
