Making a Difference Together

Michigan community benefits from UCT and our dedicated members

Plenty of celebrating going on in Coldwater, Michigan lately! Last month we announced that the Waldron Learning Center won second place and $5,000 in the UCT Gives Back AGAIN video contest.

Waldron Learning Center is designed to provide additional education for students whose learning disabilities prevented them from receiving a high school diploma. Through the Pathways to Independence program students learn the skills they need to get a job and build a network of trusted friends they can count on after graduation.

The school is very unique: it is the only public school in the area that educates students with learning disabilities, ages 18 to 26. And about 90% of the students who graduate from Waldron are employed! That’s pretty amazing – and proof that what they are doing at Waldron, works.

We are also impressed by UCT Council 452’s dedication to Waldron. Council members often visit the school to offer assistance. Just recently, Coldwater Council helped Waldron get a much-needed ramp for their stage.

Now with the $5,000 prize, the school can expand and remodel its facilities that are in need of repair.

At the end of April, Council 452 and Waldron Learning Center were both recognized at the 10th annual Make a Difference Awards in Coldwater.

Board member Glenn Suerver and other members of Council 452 presented the check to Waldron Learning Center.  AND – Coldwater Council 452 was honored as the Business of the Year at the ceremony! What an amazing honor for the council!

Congratulations to both Council 452 and Waldron Learning center!
