Fraternal Alliance annual meeting held in Austin

Posted on Sep 18, 2014 by: UCT

UCT contingent attended the American Fraternal Alliance’s annual meeting in Austin, Texas, Sept. 4-6. UCT Vice President Tom Hoffman, Community Outreach Manager Jen Szymczak, Compliance Support Analyst Spencer Germann, and I attended the meeting. There were great speakers, and we returned home with many ideas to consider for our organization.

We had a chance to listen to Dan Heath tell us how to improve our decision making. He is a best-selling author and a Senior Fellow at Duke University’s CASE Center, and he was an excellent speaker. We also heard from Kim Lear on how to use information about the three generations under age 65 to help UCT “grow younger.” She had some very helpful insights.

Jen and Spencer were not only attendees, but presenters. They talked about some of the initiatives they have been working on here at UCT as part of the Millenial Showcase Lunch. Millenials from various fraternals talked with attendees about their efforts to attract younger members. Very informative for all of us.

There were workshops covering market research results, new products being introduced, branding efforts of similar organizations such as mutual insurers and credit unions, and an unclaimed property update.

In addition to formal presentations, it was a tremendous opportunity to network with executives of other fraternals and learn what they have been up to.

We also had the opportunity in the evenings to enjoy the city of Austin. All in all, a very worthwhile few days in Texas.
