UCT employees help local charities

As I look out my office window, I’m beginning to see tinges of fall colors and smatterings of scarlet and grey as Ohio State football begins to ramp up here in Columbus.

Interrupted, the phone rings and the voice on the other ends asks, “What charity are we going to raise money for in September?” You see, UCT employees really believe in the spirit of community and compassion, and they show that by supporting numerous charitable causes throughout the year. During 2014 we have held fundraisers for Faith Mission, the March of Dimes, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, the Tom Fennessey/Mike Harden Back to School drive, the May E. Tisdale Scholarship Fund, Operation Feed, the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge (check out our Facebook page to see how we responded), Ronald McDonald House and ASHA

During our Operation Feed campaign, enough money was raised to provide 13,275 meals to those in need here in Franklin County. Our convention service project was the Children’s Hunger Alliance, and with the help of our generous members we donated more than $5,000 and nearly 20 boxes of much-need items to them.

We still have a couple of months to do more for the community – our United Way campaign, the Light the Night Walk, Toys for Tots. So, my answer to the person’s question, “What charity for September? Let’s go with United Way.”
