UCT Kaye Trainer International Capital Campaign Update!

Posted on Aug 21, 2014 by: David Knapp

We’re excited to let you know that to date we’ve received a total of $19,577 in donations for our UCT Kaye Trainer International Capital Campaign! That’s enough for us to order seven Kaye Trainers to donate to seven special hockey programs! We’re so excited about this that we’re designating October as Celebration Month, since this is when the majority of the trainers will be delivered to special hockey programs.

For those of you who aren’t yet in the know, the purpose of the campaign is to raise $182,500 to supply every ASHA (American Special Hockey Association) and SHI (Special Hockey International) program with a Kaye Trainer. That’s 73 trainers for 73 programs, folks! The trainer is a physical therapy device that’s proving to be a safe and effective way to teach special hockey athletes how to skate. It costs $2,500 to supply a trainer to each team.

Teams that will be receiving trainers during Celebration Month include the Washington Ice Dogs, the Colorado Ice Wizards, the Black Swamp Ice Frogs in Bowling Green, Ohio, and the Montgomery Cheetahs. The remaining teams are yet to be determined.

A big THANK YOU to the UCT local councils that have contributed so far to the campaign: Alexandria, La. Council 193; Mile High Council 15, Denver, Colo.; Baton Rouge, La. Council 499; Providence, R.I. Council 67; Missouri Valley, Iowa Council 939, and Lincoln, Neb. Council 104.

Another shout out to the generous individuals who have donated: Lorin & Sandy Stough, Jim & JoEllen Cashion, Larry & Yvonne Quam, Susan Vogel, Alan & Linda Poplewski, Tom & Kathleen Hoffman, Jan & Ted Metiva, David McKay, Walter Pierson, Le Roy Smith, Sean Twombly, and Jen Szymczak.

We’re striving to keep the campaign momentum going, but we need your help! Be sure to spread the word through social media and word-of-mouth to help generate funds. Donations can be made online at www.uct.org through PayPal, or checks can be made payable to UCT Charities and mailed to: UCT, 1801 Watermark Drive, Ste. 100, Columbus, OH 43215. Our goal is a big one, but not impossible! Together we can make a difference in the lives of special hockey athletes by providing them with what they need to learn how to safely skate.
