Making a Difference Together

Help us help kids and youth at risk by supporting Arbor Youth Services

Posted on Jan 21, 2020 by: David Knapp

At last year’s UCT convention in New Orleans, members contributed over $6,000 to One Heart NOLA to help kids navigating the foster system. For our 2020 convention in Lexington we’re asking you to dig deep into your reserves of generosity and community consciousness – not to mention your pockets – to donate to Arbor Youth Services, Lexington and central Kentucky’s ONLY emergency shelter providing a safe haven for children as young as six weeks and youth as old as 17 who may be homeless, abused, neglected or at risk of being victimized.

One in seven youth will run away before age 18. A child is abused or neglected every 35 seconds in the United States. Forty percent of homeless youth are LGBTQ. These are the stats; Arbor makes a difference by helping. The organization’s vision is to enable a community where all at-risk children and youth are strengthened and supported to regain ties with their family, their community and other encouraging adults. They do that through various services, including their MASH Emergency Shelter, Outreach Center, Rapid Rehousing Program and working with Project Safe Place. Services provided include:

  • 24-Hour Crisis Intervention
  • Safe Place Services
  • Counseling and Case Management
  • Parenting Support
  • Independent Living Skills Development
  • Respite Care
  • Information and Referral
  • Street Outreach

Arbor relies on the generosity of folks like you, to ensure that all youth are safe and their needs are met. Monetary gifts are critical to Arbor’s efforts. That’s why this year the challenge is again to raise at least $6,000 to help Arbor Youth Services purchase needed items like bedding, bath ware, socks, underwear, hygiene products, food items and gift cards to help them continue to provide a safe, supportive and welcoming environment for kids in transition.

If you’d like to donate but don’t plan to attend the convention or you would like to contribute before June, you can send a check payable to UCT to: UCT, Attn: Anita Neal, 1801 Watermark Drive, Columbus, OH 43215. Please make sure to note that the donation is for Arbor Youth Services.

Please share this information with your local and regional councils and try to contribute what you can.
