UCT in Action

Making a Difference Together

On a Mission

Posted on Dec 30, 2015 by: UCT

In 2009, UCT developed a strategic plan to determine how to move the organization forward for the next 125 years.  Part of any strategic plan is developing or reaffirming a mission statement.  Our mission statement is as follows:

UCT Mission Statement

UCT is an international member-benefit organization uniting people with a common passion for good citizenship and volunteerism to improve their local communities.

We tried to capture the dual nature of our organization in a single statement.

We are a membership organization and we are owned by our members.  Our members, since the organization was started, have worked to improve their local communities.  Over the years since our founding in 1888, our members have donated millions of dollars and millions of volunteer hours to various causes throughout North America.

We also provide benefits to our members.  As a Fraternal Benefit Society, we are licensed to underwrite a variety of financial services products.  The income from those products helps keep our members financially secure, and it also helps support the volunteer work of our members, so it essentially is reinvested in the community. We are a non-profit financial services company.

It’s a great business model, and one that has done a lot of good over the years.  Our members are on a mission to make their communities better places to live and work.

As I look back on the year, there were many projects our members worked on that improved local communities.  For example:

  • The UCT gives back contest provided needed funds for special hockey teams.
  • The scholarships we provided helped young people pursue an education.
  • The support our members provided to Wichita’s Rainbows United at our annual meeting was much appreciated as you can see in the attached photo.

The coming year will undoubtedly bring many new volunteer efforts by our members.
