The 3rd Annual UCT Winter Hockey Festival is Friday!

Posted on Jan 16, 2014 by: UCT

The UCT staff made it safely to Laurel, Maryland, and are now setting up for the 3rd annual UCT Winter Hockey Festival to benefit special hockey programs within our partnered organization, the American Special Hockey Association (ASHA). With two days left until the first puck drops at The Gardens Ice House, UCT is grateful for the volunteer support we have had along the way and now.

The 2014 UCT Winter Hockey Festival is anticipating the arrival of 20 ASHA teams on Friday evening. Our 20 teams are coming in from all over the northeast, mid-west and east coast including Pittsburgh, PA, Bucks County, PA, Columbus, OH, Hopkinton, MA, Long Island, NY, Rockledge, FL, Mercer County, NJ, Arlington, VA, Raleigh/Durham, NC, Bridgeport, CT, along with local teams in Maryland from Rockville, Laurel and Baltimore.  Each team is guaranteed 3 games over a two-day period, including at least one of their games on the newly constructed outdoor hockey rink, Whitey’s Pond!

During our two-day festival teams can expect surprises and awards along the way including our annual Opening Ceremonies taking place on the main rink on Saturday evening. With help from the rink experts, volunteers, certain mascots and the Navy Women’s Ice Hockey Team, it is sure to be a wonderful hour filled with lots of great and memorable photo opportunities and moments.

This year’s festival would not be possible without the help and support of the UCT local councils, our friends at The Garden’s Ice House, Mike Hickey – ASHA President, and all of our volunteers, referees and those dedicating their time and talents to make this event our best one yet! THANK YOU!

With over 700 expected attendees over the weekend, we should probably get back to work! We have a lot to look forward to – especially the arrival of our ASHA friends! Safe travels to all, and let’s get ready for some great hockey!

Thanks for reading!
