UCT in Action

Making a Difference Together

UCT employees are all heart all year ’round

UCT employees are pretty special people. I’ve said this many times over the years, and I’ll keep saying it. There are only around 50 of us who work at the home office in Columbus, Ohio, but we strive to give back to our local community as much as, if not more than, many organizations twice our size. Every single UCT employee is a UCT member, and we take seriously our organization’s tagline that UCT is where community and compassion unite. That said, as an end to 2018, I want to brag a little about our home office efforts to support causes that mean a lot to us.

We just wrapped up the year by collecting toys and donations – more than $500 – for Toys for Tots. We kick off this annual drive each year by getting creative and dressing up for Halloween. Employees vote with spare change for their favorite costumes and the proceeds, along with what is collected throughout November and December, make Christmas brighter for local kids.

Despite cold, rainy October weather, UCT home office employees/members turned out to once again support The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) battle against blood cancers by participating in the society’s annual Light the Night Walk fundraiser. Thanks to office fundraising events and individual employee donations, walkers raised over $2,000 for this worthy cause.

Each September sees the return of the back-to-school season – and the subsequent turnout of area companies, local charities and service groups spearheading school supply drives for schools in need. UCT is no exception and has offered support to local Livingston Elementary School for several years. Keeping with the spirit of giving, this year employees collected over 13 bags of snacks and supplies for students, including spiral notebooks, pencils, crayons, calculators, glue, and even backpacks.

For nearly 20 years UCT employees have been collecting food and raising funds for the Mid-Ohio Foodbank’s Operation Feed campaign. This is our biggest campaign of the year and 2018 was another great success with $5,730 raised – equaling nearly 23,000 meals for hungry Central Ohioans.

As always, UCT employees had fun raising money for the campaign. Employees participated in a number of fundraising events for the campaign, including lunches, pie sales, Donut Day, raffles, auctions, and our annual food truck rally – and the children and grandchildren of employees spent a day assembling food and tending gardens at the Mid-Ohio Foodbank.

As if this weren’t enough, UCT employees donate blood year ’round to the American Red Cross and have contributed countless dollars to such necessary causes as the American Heart Association, Faith Mission, the Central Ohio Diabetes Association, the Alzheimer’s Association and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

We’re proud of our many efforts to make our community a better place to live for everyone, and we hope to have an even bigger impact in 2019. That you can count on!
