UCT employees get ready for Operation Feed campaign!

Posted on Mar 11, 2020 by: David Knapp

UCT employees have been collecting food and raising funds for the Mid-Ohio Foodbank’s Operation Feed campaign for decades. Last year was our best year yet for the campaign with $6,393 raised – equaling 25,640 meals for hungry Central Ohioans, a nearly 3,000 meal increase over last year.

Employees had a great time participating in a number of fundraising events for the campaign, including lunches, raffles and our annual food truck rally. We had a candy bar sale, pizza luncheon, City Barbecue lunch and 50/50 raffles. We even set up a selfie station at our 5th annual UCT Food Truck Rally, which was a great success. The rally just keeps growing each year, and we had a great turnout last year.

I have had the pleasure of helping coordinate the Operation Feed fundraisers, luncheons, and food truck rally for going on three years now. I really enjoy raising money for Operation Feed in central Ohio. It’s close to my heart because no one should ever go hungry. We try to think of different fundraising ideas each year to make it fun while raising money. We’ll soon be kicking off our 2020 Operation Feed campaign at UCT, and we hope to outdo ourselves again this year.

Food insecurity is growing in Ohio where at least one in six individuals doesn’t know where a next meal is coming from. Many families have to choose between paying for housing, utilities or medical expenses and putting food on the table. Operation Feed provides fresh, healthy food for local families struggling with hunger. Operation Feed provides fresh, healthy food for families locally struggling with hunger. Every year local businesses, schools, groups and individuals raise money through a community-wide drive. The program begins in March and runs through June.

More than 525,000 individuals receive emergency food each year through the Mid-Ohio Foodbank through more than 650 food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, after-school programs, and senior housing sites. 35% of food requests from pantries are for children. 17% are for senior citizens. 5% of Mid-Ohio Foodbank customers are homeless.

Like I said, we’ll be kicking off our campaign soon, so stay tuned because you’ll be hearing more from me about Operation Feed. Are there food banks in your area that you support? If so, thank you for supporting such a worthwhile cause! I’d love to hear about your involvement.
