UCT’s 127th annual convention wraps up

Last week, UCT held its 127th annual convention in Columbus, Ohio. UCT has been headquartered in Columbus since its founding in 1888, and while the location of the annual convention moves from year to year, occasionally the meeting occurs in UCT’s home town. It was a busy week, and while there was a great deal to do at the convention, attendees had the opportunity to enjoy Columbus. Some people went to Huntington Park to enjoy an evening baseball game; many enjoyed Red, White and Boom, Columbus’ Fourth of July fireworks display; and more than a few enjoyed visiting galleries in the Short North.

Among the highlights of the meeting were:

  • There were over 100 delegates at the meeting who participated in the business meetings, and among other things, elected the new Board of Governors for the coming year.

  • Attendees also participated in our community service project to benefit the Children’s Hunger Alliance.  Over $5,000 was raised and more than 20 boxes of requested items were donated.

  • The Lifetime Achievement Award went to Jerry and Jo Ann Pauli from Cheyenne, Wyoming.

  • We launched a new capital campaign to raise money to buy Kaye Trainers for ASHA teams. The Kaye Trainer is a piece of equipment that can be used to help people learn to skate. The money donated during the convention exceeded our expectations.

As usual, it was a productive meeting in many ways.

UCT’s annual convention next year will be in Wichita, Kansas.
