The sun’s shining and just about everyone is out and about – summer’s in full swing! It’s the ideal time of year to get active and give back to your community through volunteer service. Here are (in my opinion) some all-time great summer songs to help motivate you.
“Hot Fun in the Summertime,” Sly & the Family Stone
Summertime is fun time, so why miss out on it? How about spending some of your time helping out with activities for kids? Summer camps, youth summer programs and youth ball teams are always looking for good volunteers. It will bring out the kid in you!
“Summer in the City,” The Lovin’ Spoonful
Most cities pull out the stops when it comes to summer fairs and festivals. Why not get out and experience what your city has to offer by volunteering to usher at a local music festival or work clean-up detail at a community art fair? You’ll meet new people & have a great time while doing good!
“Summer’s Almost Gone,” The Doors
Are your kids already experiencing the “summer’s almost gone” blues? Encourage them to get involved in some summer volunteering – it’s a great way to lift their spirits! Activities can be as simple as helping an elderly neighbor maintain her yard to joining with other kids to clean up a local park. There are countless ways for kids to make a difference!
“Vacation,” The Go-Go’s
Have your plans for a summer vacation been short-circuited? Don’t let it get you down. Get out and get involved in walk-a-thons, swim-a-thons, or golf tournaments that raise money for good causes that benefit others. It might help save someone’s life – and brighten your own!
“Hot Summer Day,” It’s a Beautiful Day
Can’t take the heat? Not a problem. There are plenty of volunteer opportunities waiting for you indoors. Why not serve as a museum guide or man the reception desk at a hospital? Libraries are always looking for summer reading program volunteers and food banks always need people to sort goods and pack boxes. You can stay cool and still do some good!
